FGD – Flue Gas Desulfurization – Revolutionizing Emissions Control
The Future of Coal-Fired Power Generation
The Situation
More than half of the electric power used in the United States is generated by coal-fired power plants. Since these plants consume staggering amounts of coal, they generate significant levels of SO2 gas. And, until recently, the SO2 has been emitted unfiltered into the atmosphere, leading to a growing need for sorbent materials. Over the next three years, coal-fired power plants will be investing in and committing to the supply of these materials (and the installation of necessary equipment).
CMS’s Significant Role
CMS’s Contract Processing division has been engaged by several Fortune-500 companies in the United States – major stakeholders in the mining and production of materials used for SO2 and SO3 mitigation. In fact, CMS’s Contract Processing division has processed material for numerous trials at some of the largest energy producing facilities in the Midwestern and Northeastern United States.
Trial results confirmed the adsorbency of materials CMS supplied. This material achieved exceptionally high levels of reduction while using less to do so. These trials have resulted in the qualification of CMS processed material for FGD installations, throughout entire fleets, at some of the largest power producers in the United States.
CMS’s newest facilities are dedicated to processing these materials and supplying finished product to clusters of coal-fired power plants.

CMS Implements a 3-Phase Dry Capture System
The Project
The focus of this project is the reduction of the emissions excreted by coal-fired power plants. To accomplish this, CMS’s milling technology is put to work in a 3-phase impregnation of flue-gas streams using propriety materials.
Ultimate Project Goal
To provide a “turn-key” solution that specifically addresses the emission issues surrounding thpe global coal-fired power industry. The powerful combination of specialized proprietary materials and CMS’s engineering expertise now serves as a catalyst, helping the coal-fired power generation industry become a cleaner and positively contributing sector.
A Snapshot
From material and equipment supply, engineering expertise and processing knowledge, and the R&D learnings, CMS’s proven “one stop solution” is the viable, cost-effective, and more environmentally-friendly route for those seeking to become world leaders in emission control. While there are those who’ve tried to replicate CMS’s solution, none have come close. And there are specific reasons why.
